Enhancing Biodegradation of Pyridine with Trehalose Lipid in Rhodococcus pyridinivorans sp. Strain HR-1-Inoculated Microbial Fuel Cell

A Gram-positive exoelectrogen Rhodococcus pyridinivorans sp. strain HR-1 was cultivated from leachate-fed microbial fuel cell (MFC) to study the biodegradation effect of pyridine. In comparison with mixed cultured MFC, presented a remarkable electrical capacity maximum output 4.33 W/m3 under 30 °C in neutral anolyte 1 g/L acetate as substrate. Further, demonstrated environmental resistance strain. Microbial metabolism evident at pH between 5–9 and temperature range 20–40 °C, whereas optimal condition for pyridine degradation observed °C. This is first reporting bio-electrochemical system that achieved 42% ± 5% rate full operation cycle 2 concentration. Considering nonnegligible internal HR-1-inoculated trehalose lipid also introduced bio-surfactant reduce charge transfer obstacle microbes electrodes. The surface morphology illustrated had plump shape high specific area. Accordingly, addition promoted anode biomass (1.2 0.1 mg/cm2 1.7 0.2 mg/cm2) higher (68% 4%). feasibility electrochemical disposal on eminent adaptability makes MFC practical approach real application.
